We would like to thank Michael Hernandez and Ben E. Keith for hosting the kickoff January meeting. As always, it was a great time and we had a very nice turn out. A special thanks also to David Beckham for his idea of a silent auction of donated brewing equipment. His efforts and the club's support generated about 100 dollars for the Judy Bradley Memorial Club Campout. We are still looking for a buyer for our second club bar. If you know of anyone who is interested pass their info on to any of the club's officers. Iron Mash is this weekend, Feb 2. Our team this year consists of Peggy, Eric, Kevin, Dan, and Gary. We are entering a Spiced Herb Vegetable Brown Ale with Lion’s Mane mushroom and toasted Yaupon Holly leaves, and will be pairing it with Mushroom Spiced Pastry Pinwheels. Wish us luck! Also, while there Gary will be talking with Mark McCurdy, head judge of Bluebonnet this year, about opportunities for our club members to judge at Bluebonnet. Medals and updated name plates for our club plaques for 2024 have been ordered and should be here soon. Don't forget first competition beers are due March 29 through March 31. Two entries allowed per person, $2 fee per entry. This helps us cover the cost of medals and plaque upkeep. The February meeting will be the 22nd at Pat and Marty's. This day will also be our first club brew for the KGB competition. The beer is a Belgian Golden Strong Ale. We would like to get the recipe nailed down by the 5th of February so we have time to get the necessary ingredients. Members can participate by helping brew, fermenting and bottling, donating ingredients, or bringing food and beer for the day. Start time will be 9am or 10am TBD closer to the day. We are still working on a bar maintenance day for Bluebonnet and should know soon. So far, we have 4 kegs committed plus the extra Iron Mash keg. We are looking for an additional 3 or more. We will have a tasting and beer naming meeting when we get them all together. Speaking of Bluebonnet, they are having a beer dinner this year but it's still not up on the website. As soon as anyone sees it posted let everyone know. They are always good. |
